Prepared for Emergencies: The Role of the ESG Framework for Museums, Libraries, and Archives – The ESG4GLAM Multiplier Event

October 2026

European cultural heritage faces unprecedented challenges, from climate change to geopolitical crises. In this scenario, how can museums, libraries, galleries, and archives (the GLAM sector) prepare effectively and sustainably to protect their collections and communities?

To answer this crucial question, the ESG4GLAM European project is proud to announce its 2026 Multiplier Event, titled “Prepared for Emergencies: Museums, Libraries, Galleries, Archives and the ESG Sustainability Framework in Practice”.

The event will be held on Thursday, November 26, 2026, from 10:00 to 16:00, at the prestigious Forum Marinum Maritime Centre in Turku, Finland.

A Discussion Opportunity for Sector Professionals

The gathering is specifically designed for cultural heritage professionals who want to integrate ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance) sustainability metrics into their risk management and emergency preparedness strategies.

The day’s program will offer valuable theoretical and practical training opportunities:

  • The first results of the ESG4GLAM project: An international panel, moderated by the Humak University of Applied Sciences (Finland), will present how to translate ESG sustainability metrics within the GLAM sector. Speakers will include project partners from Italy (Mazzini Lab Benefit, SOS Archivi), Latvia (Jelgava City Library), Serbia (University of Novi Sad), and Finland (Forum Marinum).

  • Risks and armed conflicts: A highly anticipated presentation by Minna Hautio will explore the lessons learned by Finland regarding the preparedness and perseverance of cultural organizations in the face of risks posed by armed conflicts, looking specifically at the Ukrainian experience.

  • Practical workshop on heritage rescue: The afternoon will be dedicated to action, with a “hands-on” exercise led by Francesca Peyron (Mazzini Lab Benefit) focused on techniques for handling and moving cultural heritage following an emergency.

How to Participate

The event is completely free of charge and will be held entirely in person. The primary language for the proceedings will be English, with an innovative AI-assisted Finnish translation option available.
