When sustainability meets the guardians of memory

March 2026

Culture is our passport to the future. It treasures the past. Museums, libraries, archives, and galleries are the keepers of our shared story, protecting meaning and memory for tomorrow. But in a world of climate change, social shifts, and rising calls for transparency, we have to ask:

Are we building a sustainable legacy?

This is where ESG4GLAM sets sail, right at the crossroads where bold dreams meet the practical tools to make them real.

Five partners, one mission: ESG4GLAM builds a new language for sustainability in GLAM. Supported by the European Union, we’re not just bridging gaps. We’re rewriting the playbook for cultural institutions. Today, environmental care, social inclusion, and good governance anchor our actions. The old rulebooks rarely fit culture.

ESG4GLAM stands for Environmental, Social, and Governance skills for the GLAM sector. But we’re not here to tick boxes or drown in paperwork. Our mission? To make sustainability real for institutions driven by public value. With ESG4GLAM, museums, libraries, archives, and galleries will receive practical resources and support tailored to their cultural, social, and educational missions, ensuring relevance and resilience for generations.

From Italy to Serbia, Finland to Latvia, our alliance is a mosaic of research, culture, and training.
Each partner brings a fresh view: research, practice, heritage, education, or community.
Together, we’re reimagining sustainability’s meaning, how we measure it, and how we share it in culture.

At its heart, ESG4GLAM knows cultural institutions don’t just follow rules; they lead.
These Guardians of Memory shape values, strengthen communities, protect stories, and spark new conversations.
Our mission is to equip them with the skills and tools to chart a bold course toward sustainability.

In the coming years, we’ll build an ESG framework for GLAMs. We’ll design training and share open-access tools for everyone.
This isn’t a closed-door meeting for experts: It’s an open invitation to put culture at the heart of sustainability
